Jim Goodwin blasts Covid-19 vaccine passport calls and urges clubs to fight against them

St Mirren boss Jim Goodwin has urged Scottish football clubs to stand up and fight back against vaccine passports being introduced.

The government are set to debate and vote on the introduction of vaccine passports in the coming hours but Goodwin feels it would be unacceptable.

And he's determined to get support for his belief that they shouldn't be introduced and individuals should have the right to choose whether or not they get the Covid-19 vaccine.

The new rules will see events with crowds of 10,000 being forced to have the vaccine to attend and Goodwin feels that would be bad news for Scottish football.

The passports would come in to place on October 1 and the St Mirren boss said: "People have got the right to a choice and this isn't something we should be forced into.

"I hope the SFA and all of the football clubs stand up to it and don't agree to this kind of thing happening".

Scottish football fan group Supporters Direct Scotland are also against it and feel it would exclude fans from Premiership and Scotland games.

Chief executive Alan Russell said: "We are concerned about inequalities.

"So excluding people through their vaccination status rather than medical status and their risk. There are differences in levels of vaccination in different sections of society and football support.

"However, vaccination levels are pretty high in Scotland. So we think it's going to be a very small number of people who are excluded for those reasons. But even if that's one, then it's a concern."
