Jim Goodwin bemoans lapse of concentration that allowed Lawrence Shankland to fire opener

St Mirren boss Jim Goodwin was left frustrated after Lawrence Shankland found space in the box to slam home Dundee United ’s opener.

The Scotland international bagged his first top flight goal for the Terrors with an exquisite finish when the Saints failed to properly deal with a corner.

Goodwin was disappointed Shankland was able to strike the opening blow after shackling him well for much of the game on Saturday.

Reflecting on the game, Goodwin said: “It’s obviously a sore one – a very frustrating afternoon from our point of view.

“Dundee United got the better of us on the day.

“Lawrence Shankland is the one man we talked about all week in the lead up to the game.

“We knew how dangerous he was and we saw glimpses of that on Saturday of what a good player he really is.

“He linked the game up really well in the second half, but in the first half we denied him any space, bar the goal.

“That’s the frustrating thing from my point of view. We dealt with him well for much of the game.”
