Jim Goodwin agrees St Mirren deal as Alloa boss set to pen three-year contract

Alloa boss Jim Goodwin has agreed a three-year contract to replace Oran Kearney at St Mirren.

The former Buddies captain is set to put pen to paper on a deal that will also see coach Lee Sharp follow him to Paisley.

Record Sport understands Goodwin is yet to sign on the dotted line but all formalities have been settled and an announcement could be made imminently.

The 37-year-old could join his new charges on their pre-season training camp in Ireland over the next few days.

The Buddies parted company with Kearney by mutual consent earlier this week after a breakdown in his relationship with chairman Gordon Scott.

And Goodwin, who skippered the club to League Cup glory in 2013, has been chosen as the man to take the helm following his impressive stint with the Wasps. Sharp is also an ex-Buddie.

He achieved promotion to the Championship with Alloa at the first time of asking before keeping the club in the second-tier against the odds last term.

The Irishman looked set to become Dundee manager earlier this summer but a move fell through following talks with the Dens Park club.

He wore the armband for Saints over five years before leaving to assist Jack Ross at Alloa in 2016.

He later assumed the top job when Ross returned to St Mirren .
