Jim Goodwin admits frustration as talented St Mirren kids miss out on Ross County trip

Saints boss Jim Goodwin admits he’s frustrated he can’t call on some of the club’s talented kids to help boost their squad numbers due to coronavirus restrictions.

The Buddies take on Ross County tonight without a host of key players, including Marcus Fraser, Ethan Erhahon, Jake Doyle-Hayes and Jon Obika.

In normal circumstances the St Mirren manager would have been able to promote some of the Paisley side’s best young talents onto the bench to bolster his decimated team.

But because of coronavirus protocols involving testing, Goodwin will be forced to run with what he has left in this evening’s clash with the Staggies at the Global Energy Stadium.

He told Express Sport: “There are one or two of our young lads I’d love to reward with a call-up.

“I would definitely have brought a couple of them up after their game on Tuesday. They’ve had some really impressive results lately, including against Rangers.

“Kieran Offord, for instance, is a young centre forward and was in our group at the start of pre-season.

"He was one I’m really excited about and one or two others could easily have been involved.

“But because of testing and restrictions, we can’t do anything about it.”
