Jim Goodwin accuses Ryan Porteous of conning referee in Hibs clash and insists defender has a particular 'habit'

Jim Goodwin says Hibs defender Ryan Porteous conned referee Kevin Clancy and bought a penalty for his side.

The St Mirren gaffer was delighted with his team's display at Easter Road after they earned a deserved draw against the Premiership leaders.

But Goodwin felt they merited more and said the penalty given against them by Clancy was unfair.

With the score at 1-1, the whistler penalised defender Matt Millar for grappling with Porteous in the box.

But Goodwin says the Hibs player was clever in winning the stop kick for Jack Ross ' men.

Afterwards, the Saints boss said: “The big talking point for me is the penalty.

“I hate moaning all the time but that's an extremely soft penalty.

“There is a bit of contact before the ball comes in, a little bit of grappling.

“But before Porteous goes to ground, Matt moves his arms out to the side to prove to the referee he's not touching him.

“Porteous has a habit of winning cheap free-kicks over the years.

“Some might say he was clever but the referee needs to see what's going on and not give the penalty.

“There's a real frustration because I think we could have won the game today if that hadn't gone against us.

“There are too many big decisions and key moments in games that are costing us.

“We've had three goals disallowed in the last three games, a penalty given against us today – and these decisions are costing us points.”
