Jim Goodwin accused of Celtic 'surrender' by Willie Miller as Aberdeen icon rips Pittodrie tactics apart

Fuming Aberdeen legend Willie Miller has slammed Jim Goodwin for the defensive-minded tactics deployed in defeat to Celtic.

Ange Postecoglou's side were made to wait for their winner but would eventually secure a 1-0 win through Callum McGregor’s late strike sealed the points for Celtic and left the home crowd disgruntled at full-time after the Dons' failed to mount any serious attacking threat. There were some audible boos from sections of the home support at the end of the game after the meek performance from their side, and Miller joined their anger.

He reckons Aberdeen should have pushed Celtic rather than sit back and let them control the tempo of the game, given their impressive record on their own patch so far this term and their attacking displays that have loifted them to third in the table. Responding to Goodwin's interview where he stated he was "frustrated" with the result, Miller told BBC Sportsound: "He's frustrated? I'm frustrated.

"I am expecting much, much more from an Aberdeen team. I think he is way off the mark there saying at the end of the game if they had got a point they would have been very happy with it. They would have accepted it.

"I don't think they would have been happy with it, and i don't think the fans would have been happy with the performance. I think that the fans need to show their displeasure in any manager who is showing those kind of tactics at Pittodrie; this is a home game.

"This is a place where these fans have been entertained. Jim Goodwin has had a lot of praise and his tactics have been first class. They have went forward and scored goals; they have an offensive team.

"He didn't give that offensive team an opportunity. I hope i don't have to sit through another 90 minutes like that here at Pittodrie, or even away from home, where Aberdeen surrender the pitch and are not taking part in the game of football.

"A game of football is there to be won. Sometimes the opposition is better than you and they win the game, but when you just retreat, retreat and retreat from the first minute of the game to the last it's not acceptable.

"I think the fans will make their voice heard that it's not acceptable and I sincerely hope the chairman makes his voice heard that it's not acceptable. It isn't acceptable. It's been a good season, don't throw it away."
