Jim Gavin delighted after prodigal son Diarmuid Connolly's Dublin return

Diarmuid Connolly was congratulated by Jim Gavin after a job well done in his Dublin comeback yesterday.

The St Vincent's star scored a point in the 1-16 0-13 win over Tyrone and quickly readjusted to the rigours of inter-county football in their final Super 8s game.

The 32-year-old was black carded for a late foul on Ciaran McLaughlin but that didn't blot his copybook in Gavin's opinion.

"I thought he did very well for us," Gavin told the Irish Mirror.

"He did well for the team and that’s what we expect from our players and he did that to the nth degree.

"I think Diarmuid loves Dublin and we love him. Circumstances change for all players. They volunteer their time and we’re delighted he played really well for the team.

“Collectively every player played their part and we’re focusing on next weekend.”
