Jim Gavin admits Dublin are looking forward to another shot at five-in-a-row

Jim Gavin admitted Dublin were looking forward to another shot at the five in a row after failing to fire in today's All-Ireland final.

The Dubs needed Dean Rock's injury time point to earn a Saturday, September 14 replay with Kerry - although Rock also missed a difficult free in the dying moments to win it.

“The performance wasn’t good enough to get the result, we have the opportunity now to rectify that," stated Dubs boss Gavin afterwards.

The turning point in the encounter came just before half-time when Blues full-back Johnny Cooper, who had earlier conceded a controversial penalty, picked up a second yellow card for a foul on David Clifford.

There was a big spotlight on ref David Gough coming into the game as former Kerry stars, including ex-manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice, counselled against his appointment.

However Gough gave the Kingdom that first half penalty as well as dismissing Cooper.

“We didn’t get the rub of the green in that regard (calls) but that happens in games, some days you get those calls and some days you don’t," said Gavin.

“That’s the way it is. We dust ourselves down and prepare as best we can for another game.”

Asked to elaborate further on the referee's decision to send off Cooper but leave Kerry's Tom O'Sullivan on when he committed a foul having already been booked, Gavin replied: “We need time, it’s hard to know, both players were grappling.

"In the second half we could have gotten one or two calls which could have gone our way, they didn’t, so you just dust yourself down and go again.

“I thought he was doing OK (Cooper). David Clifford is a fantastic player. There seemed to be (pressure) from the outside, but David Gough is one of the top officials in the game.

“Some days the calls go for you, in that instance (O’Sullivan) it went against us.

"But overall you wouldn’t be looking at that as an excuse. it’s just the performance from ourselves wasn’t good enough, but we have an opportunity the next day to try to rectify that".
