Jim Duffy has moved to the brink of landing the Ayr United job on a full-time basis.
The interim boss, who has recorded three wins and a draw, will hold talks over the vacant position with chairman David Smith this week.
And the Ayrshire Post understands United chiefs have been hugely impressed by what they’ve seen since the departure of David Hopkin earlier this month.
Duffy has led Ayr to seven points in three league games since taking the helm with victories over Dunfermline and Hamilton and a goalless draw against Morton on Saturday.
The Honest Men also ran out 3-0 winners against Rangers B in the SPFL Trust Trophy, in a result that was subsequently overturned due to a rules breach.
Duffy is due to take Ayr to face Partick Thistle and former Somerset boss Ian McCall at Firhill this Saturday.

The international break then kicks in with a two-week interval until the next game against Queen of the South at Somerset on October 16.
The caretaker said: “It may sound like a cliche but I’ve been asked to come in and take the team, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed doing that.
“Any decisions are for the chairman and the board to take.
"They are the ones that can answer those questions.
"If we're still here on Saturday, then great."
