Jim Donegan murder investigation ongoing as PSNI arrest another man

A man arrested by detectives investigating the murder of Jim Donegan today has been released unconditionally.

The 33-year-old was arrested this morning under the Terrorism Act and was held in police custody for several hours before police confirmed this afternoon he had been released.

Mr Dongean was shot dead in his car as he waited to pick up his 13-year-old son from school on the Glen Road in West Belfast on December 4.

A PSNI spokesperson confirmed this evening: "A 33 year old man arrested this morning under the Terrorism Act in connection with the murder of Jim Donegan on 4th December has been released unconditionally."

Police say those arrested under The Terrorism Act must be charged, released pending report to the Public Prosecution Service or released unconditionally – bail is not permitted under this legislation.

Detective Sergeant Campbell said, "I would continue to urge anyone who has any information, or who witnessed the murder, to contact the police on 101. Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111."
