Jim Boylen officially joins Fred Hoiberg's Bulls staff

June 17--The Bulls officially announced Jim Boylen as associate head coach on Wednesday, luring the veteran assistant from the Spurs.

"I am very excited to add Jim to our staff as our associate head coach. His track record speaks for itself with nearly 30 years of coaching experience and three NBA championships on his resume," Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg said. "His work ethic and attention to detail will help our team every day, and I look forward to working with him as we prepare for next season."

Boylen spent 11 seasons with the Rockets under Rudy Tomjanovich, winning two NBA titles. He added a third championship on Gregg Popovich's staff, where the 50-year-old East Grand Rapids, Mich., native spent the last two seasons.

"We are fortunate to be able to add someone with the credentials that Jim has," general Gar Forman said. "He will be a big asset to Fred and our players."

Sources indicated Hoiberg has talked to Pete Myers about returning to the organization he has played, scouted and served as assistant coach for before Tom Thibodeau chose not to retain Myers in 2010. Mike Wilhelm, who has been with the organization since 2002, also is expected to be retained. Both Wilhelm and Myers coached Hoiberg during his Bulls' playing days.
