Jilted woman threatened to turn up at ex's home in wedding dress then attacked his new girlfriend

A jilted woman threatened to turn up at her ex-boyfriend's home in a wedding dress - before throwing eggs around the property and attacking him.

Furious Letitia Simmonds, 25, then turned on the ex’s new girlfriend, hurling racist abuse at her and damaging her car.

The mum-of-two also assaulted the police officer who arrived to arrest her, the Examiner reported.

Kirklees magistrates heard how Simmonds lashed out after discovering her former partner of six years with his new love.

She pleaded guilty to two charges of criminal damage, assault, racially-aggravated disorderly behaviour and assaulting a police constable acting in the execution of his duty.

Prosecutor Bill Astin told the Huddersfield court that the relationship between Simmonds and the father of her sons broke down last September.

Both moved on to new partners but then Simmonds’ new relationship ended and this had an enormous impact on her.

She began sending abusive messages and Facebook postings about his new girlfriend.

Mr Astin said: “She turned up at his home and was in drink and abusive.

“A few days later he got a call saying she was at his house in a wedding dress.”

He called police after returning to his home to find Simmonds there being verbally abusive.

Magistrates heard that Simmonds, of Towngate, Highburton, was admitted into hospital after harming herself.

On May 17 the ex and his new partner went to her home to collect some clothes to take to her during her hospital stay.

But she came back while they were still there, became abusive and they left.

He then returned to his home to find that his conservatory window had been smashed using a paint tin and eggs had been thrown all over the floor.

Simmonds came to his home later smelling of alcohol and demanding to see their children but he wouldn’t let her in.

Simmonds kicked one of the officers in his shin as he tried to arrest her.

The court that Simmonds had no previous convictions.

Her solicitor Simon Lindley explained that she had been suffering from mental health problems.

He said: “She wasn’t well but accepts that her behaviour was out of control.

“Her anxiety got the better of her and when she saw his new partner it got worse.”

“She knows she needs help.”

Magistrates adjourned sentencing until May 24 so that probation staff can prepare a full report on Simmonds.

In the meantime she is banned from contacting her ex and must stay out of Lepton.
