Jilted Scots yob told ex 'I hope you're thrown off a horse' before threatening to torch house and stab dad

A jilted student told his ex-girlfriend "I hope you're thrown off a horse and trampled" after their romance ended, before threatening to torch her house and stab her dad.

David Binnie, 20, messaged his former partner of two years when they split: "You're a tramp.

"Dirty cheating b****, don't ever talk to me again.

"I hope you get flung off a horse and trampled and get brain damage."

Falkirk Sheriff Court heard the messages were among "a few" he sent her on on Saturday September 11.

Prosecutor Sarah Smith said Binnie's ex didn't reply, and two days later he texted again.

He messaged: "Just going to tell you straight up - keep your s*** going and your house will go alight. Promise you that."

When he added, "Your father will get stabbed" she contacted police.

Binnie was spoken to and told officers: "It was just out of anger. It was just stupid empty threats."

Binnie, of Stenhousemuir, Stirlingshire, who attends college in Edinburgh and also works as an apprentice roofer, admitted sending offensive electronic messages.

Solicitor Murray Aitken, defending, said: "They had been together for some two years.

"It ended badly a week or so before so it was all still quite raw.

"I don't think he'll mind me saying it was immaturity. He fully appreciates, in the cold light of day now when he sees the texts, how they appear.

"In the heat of the moment it seems to be the way of the world that youngsters immediately grab their phones and send messages, but Mr Binnie accepts that he exceeded any reasonable line that can be drawn in these matters and it's something he does regret.

"Since this there's been no contact, certainly no repetition."

Sheriff Christopher Shead fined Binnie £400 and imposed a non-harassment order preventing Binnie from approaching or contacting his ex for 12 months.

He added: "That should provide you with an incentive to keep apart."
