Jill Scott takes on new role as she signs new contract at Man City Women

Jill Scott will take up a coaching role alongside her playing duties to remain at Manchester City Women.

Scott, 33, was one of the first signings when the Blues reformed back in January 2014 and has been an essential part of the team during a period where they have picked up six major trophies including one WSL title.

The England midfielder has also been instrumental in driving the growth of the women's game and was awarded an MBE in the 2020 New Year's Honours List for her services to the sport.

Scott's new role will see her join the coaching set-up, working with assistant Alan Mahon and new head coach Gareth Taylor. However, the midfielder will still be available for selection in the team and has made it clear that she sees herself as a player first.

“It feels fantastic to have everything sorted and to know that I’m going to be at the Club for the next two years is something I’m really looking forward to," she said.

“Although I’ve been named as a player-coach, I want to reiterate that I’m a player first and foremost – I still want to play for this team and achieve success.

“It’s been a journey from the beginning – six years – and every year, there has been a new chapter to the story and I’ve enjoyed every single part of it.

“I’m so excited to continue that journey. Coaching might bring new aspects for me, but it’s about working hard on the pitch and putting in the hours off it, trying to grow my knowledge of the game to help the team in any way I can.”
