Jill Dando's ex-Bristol reporter brother reveals who he believes killed his sister

The brother of  TV star Jill Dando has said he believes her murder was a stranger who committed a random act of brutality.

Speaking ahead of a BBC documentary about the murder, Nigel Dando, said the unsolved case still had unanswered questions including who killed Jill and why.

It's been two decades since the Crimewatch Host was killed on her doorstep in Fulham on April 26.

The TV icon, who was originally from Weston-super-Mare  was shot once through the head from point blank range with a 9mm semi-automatic pistol.

During a candid interview, her brother Nigel Dando has described the moment he found out his sister was killed.

Nigel was working at the Bristol Post, as a reporter, when the news broke.

He told the BBC a fellow journalist called him, saying his sister had been involved in an accident and asking whether he knew anything.

As he was trying to get hold of Jill, who was aged 37 at the time of her death, it was announced on a news bulletin she had died.

Jill Dando’s death is unsolvable, says lead detective on the case

Nigel said: "Back in the day we would have a bank of TV news screens and we would monitor them regularly," he told BBC Points West.

"One of them broke that news was coming through that Jill had been killed, that she had been found dead on her doorstep.

"I believe there was no reason, it was just an act of random brutality and Jill was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"It's such a pointless thing to have happened."

The Murder of Jill Dando  will be shown on BBC One at 9pm on Tuesday 2 April.
