Jill Biden Urges LGBTQ Community To Support Biden-Harris

First lady Jill Biden speaks before previewing the food and decorations at the White House in Washington, Tuesday, April 9, 2024, for the State Dinner for Japan's Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on Wedne

First Lady Jill Biden spoke at a rally organized by the Human Rights Campaign, a civil rights organization for LGBTQ individuals, where she emphasized the importance of supporting President Joe Biden's reelection campaign. She highlighted the threat posed by likely rival Donald Trump, whom she described as a 'bully' and 'dangerous' to the LGBTQ community.

Biden expressed concerns about efforts to roll back the rights and freedoms of LGBTQ individuals, citing the passage of laws in various states targeting the community. She urged LGBTQ voters to mobilize and work tirelessly to ensure that the Democratic ticket of Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris secures victory in the upcoming election.

Noting the significant support that the LGBTQ community provided to President Biden in the 2020 election, Biden stressed the importance of maintaining that support in light of the president's current challenges with public approval ratings and softening support from other key groups.

The first lady highlighted President Biden's advocacy for LGBTQ rights, including his signing of the Respect for Marriage Act, lifting the ban on blood donations from gay and bisexual men, allowing transgender individuals to serve openly in the military, and opposing conversion therapy. She reassured the audience that the administration would continue to defend the hard-won gains of the LGBTQ community against external threats.

The event coincided with the launch of 'Out for Biden-Harris,' an initiative by the president's reelection campaign aimed at mobilizing LGBTQ voters. Biden's call to action resonated with attendees as she urged them to persist in their efforts to secure a second term for President Biden and Vice President Harris.

While the Trump campaign did not immediately respond to requests for comment, the message from Jill Biden and the Human Rights Campaign underscored the critical role that LGBTQ voters are expected to play in the upcoming election.
