Jil Sander x Uniqlo: here’s what to shop

Feeling overwhelmed at the prospect of getting dressed again as the world re-opens? Aren’t we all.

What might help to quell these anxieties is a healthy dose of retail therapy, for which Jil Sander’s second collection for Uniqlo will be perfect as it drops tomorrow and is brimming with some seriously brilliant basics.

The collection, which combines 44 womenswear and 42 menswear pieces, was inspired by the “the lightness and energy of spring” and features a covetable line-up of easy breezy shirts, dresses and t-shirts.

“The overall idea is sophistication,” says Sander, “A kind of purity that lets us think of regeneration and a fresh start.”

Uniqlo

Sander’s latest collection for Uniqlo follows hot on the heels of her winter line for the high street stalwart, which launched in November 2020 and was her first in a decade.

German-born Sander founded her eponymous label in 1968, after working as a fashion editor at German magazine Petra. In 1999, when Prada bought a 75 per cent stake in her brand, Sander assumed the role of creative director, before announcing the launch of her own independent fashion consultancy in 2009, whose first client was Uniqlo.

The +J collaboration first ran for three years until 2011, before it launched a lauded one-off best-of collection in 2014.

Since Uniqlo’s inception in 1984, it has tapped a slew of brands for its now infamous collaborations, from JW Anderson and Keith Haring to Sesame Street and McDonald’s.
