KOCHI: Referring to the controversial ‘narcotic jihad’ remarks made by Pala diocese bishop Mar Joseph Kallarangatt, the Kerala Muslim Jamaat Council said that jihad should be held against narcotic drugs, which are the symbol of evil.
TPM Ibrahim Khan, the state legal advisor of the council, said that those who try to destroy Kerala, which is a model to the world in education, religious harmony and social empowerment, through their hate speech should instead make their own community members aware about the ill-effects of drugs and liquor in the society.
Khan was addressing the working committee meeting held in Kochi as part of the 50th anniversary of the Kerala Muslim Jamaat Council on Wednesday.
“Since the times of the Prophet, Muslim community had fought against drugs and liquor. People with vested interest insulted such a community through certain remarks. But the stand taken against those people by chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, leader of opposition V D Satheesan, leaders of various churches and Hindu community show the secular nature of Kerala,” he said.
As part of the golden jubilee celebrations, the council launched various campaigns and awareness programmes against dowry and narcotic drugs. Also, various programmes will be launched to help the poor during the pandemic by Mahal Jamaats.
During the meeting, the council felicitated Mohammed Shiyas, who was recently appointed as the district Congress committee president in Ernakulam.
