The Japan Football Association made the choice of former national team midfielder Hajime Moriyasu as the new coach of the Japan soccer squad official on Thursday.
Moriyasu will also serve as coach for the under-23 national team that is set to play in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, the association agreed at a board meeting.
The 49-year-old will be the first Japan coach to lead both the national team and the Olympic squad since Philippe Troussier, who lead both squads at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games and the 2002 World Cup that was held in Japan and South Korea.
