Jewish man left "anxious and upset" after giant neon Swastika sprayed on car in Kingswood

A Jewish man has spoken of his upset and anxiety after a huge neon Swastika was sprayed on a car opposite where he lives.

Nick Helfenbein said he was 'absolutely shocked' when he saw the 'giant symbol of hate' on the vehicle on Waters Road, Kingswood.

Today (Monday, September 28) is Yom Kippur - the holiest day of the year in Judaism.

Mr Helfenbein said: "It's awful, it's a gut punch. Me and my wife, who is the granddaughter of Holocaust survivor, feel anxious about this - it was right next door to where we live.

"We used to feel it was quite a safe neighbourhood. It has put us on edge."

Mr Helfenbein worries the racist vandalism is sign of growing tensions around the city, and country.

He said: "It's a sign that people are starting to feel empowered enough to do something like this," said Nick. "It's absolutely shocking - a giant symbol of hate.

"There's far more hatred, far more selfishness, and a swing towards nationalism."

The incident has been reported to Avon and Somerset Police.
