A Jewish man was allegedly attacked by five masked men after he was heard speaking Hebrew on the phone in Golders Green.
The 22-year-old was assaulted at 2am on Monday after stepping outside his north London apartment to make a phone call and was heard speaking Hebrew, the Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA) said.
He suffered injuries to his neck and back.
The Metropolitan Police said in a statement: “Police were called at 2.05am on Monday, 18 May, following reports that a Jewish man had been assaulted by a number of men outside a property on The Grove, NW11.
“Officers attended within six minutes and spoke to the victim, a man in his twenties, who later attended hospital with injuries to his face and back.
“The assault is being treated as an antisemitic hate crime. No arrests have been made at this stage and police enquiries continue.”
According to the CAA, the alleged assailants chased the man, dragged him across the road and tore his clothes while shouting abuse in Arabic.
Police were called by a neighbour who heard the disturbance, but the suspects fled before officers arrived, the group added.
A CAA spokesperson said: “We cannot wait any longer for real intervention against this horrific wave of violence against Britain’s Jews. We are in dire need of urgent action.”
