Jewellery shop loot gang busted, 8 arrested in Patna

PATNA: Police on Monday arrested a gang of eight robbers and recovered looted jewellery worth Rs 17 lakh from them. Criminals involved in this gang are residents of Bettiah, Motihari and Patna and they used to target jewellery shops in the city.

Patna SSP Manavjit Singh Dhillon said the gang had carried out several robberies in Patna. "On May 29, they had looted jewellery from a shop in Phulwarisharif. The same gang had committed another robbery in a jewellery showroom in Agamkuan on July 20 apart from targeting other shops in Shastri Nagar, Beur and Saguna Mor.

The arrested robbers have been identified as Sikander Miyan alias Dr Saheb (72), his brother Ali Ahmed alias Engineer (54), and his two sons Shahrukh and Mohd, Badrul Imam Firdous from Bettiah's Basbariya, aNaseer Khan from Motihari, Anjani Singh from Rupaspur in Patna and Rahul Kumar Gupta from Danapur. The SSP said Anajni used to take pictures of the shops and the locks during recce and make duplicate keys. Police recovered a pistol, a live cartridge, cutter, 229 grams of gold, 12 grams of silver, an SUV, two laptops and Rs 50,000 in cash from the possession of the arrested criminals.

Body found: The body of an unidentified person was recovered from a pit on NH-19 near Pipariya Mor under Durgavati police station in Kaimur district on Monday. Police said the miscreants had probably killed the man and then pored acid on his body.
