MYSURU: Nearly seven months after an inter-state gang killed a mason during a jewellery shop heist in August, police have arrested one person on the charges of supplying the weapon.
Mysuru city police said the accused was arrested from Mumbai. He is now in police custody.
Rakesh Rajan aka Nakul Das (35) was arrested by the police team in Mumbai on Saturday. He is the eighth person to be arrested in the case.
Deputy commissioner of police (crime) Geetha Prasanna said the firearm used to kill Chandru, who was waiting outside the jewellery shop, was allegedly supplied by Rakesh to the gang of robbers. He had been absconding since the arrest of the accused in the case. “Finally, he was nabbed the previous week,” the DCP stated.
“The investigation has continued to trace and arrest the last gang member in the case. The person who pulled down the shutter before looting the shop is still on the run,” the officer stated.
It may be recalled that an armed gang of four had entered a jewellery shop in Vidyaranyapuram in August with an intention of looting the shop. Before leaving the shop, one of the gang members opened fire at Chandrashekar, killing him on the spot. Chandrashekar aka Chandru, a mason by profession, had come to the shop to buy ear studs when he met with a tragic end.
The case grabbed national attention as the accused were from different parts of India and they immediately fled in different directions soon after the crime. One of them was arrested in Kolkata.
