Jewellery box found during beach clean up reunited with delighted owner after being stolen, dumped, and floating up the Dublin coast

A jewellery box found during a beach clean up which made it's way from Shankill to Seapoint by sea has been reunited with it's gleeful owner.

Young climate activist Flossie Donnelly and her band of beach cleaners are no strangers to weird and quirky finds during her beach cleanups.

A few months ago, she shared with us a list of bizarre items she found while picking up rubbish on Dublin's beaches.

And the group unearthed a beautiful old leather jewellery box with the letters D O'C inscribed on the lid.

The find, credited to Jack Bradshaw who found it while cleaning at Seapoint with his TY class, contained dozens of adorable knick-knacks from a time unknown.

And after the group handed in the box to Gardai, they received a call today with the best possible news.

D O'C came forwarded and claimed the jewellery box after her home in Shankill was burgled.

The box was dumped in the sea afterwards, and managed to sail about 8km up the Dublin coast from Shankill up to Seapoint!

"We got a call from the Guards to say that the jewellery box we handed in on Tuesday was part of a burglary in Shankill and the lady who was burgled got cleaned out," the post read.

"She is delighted to be re-united with her jewellery box and sentimental memories!

"This box had a good bit of sea damage and we think made its way from Shankill to Seapoint!

"We are so, so delighted to know that it is reunited with the owner.

"Thank you to Jack Bradshaw from Newpark Comprehensive School for finding it on the weekly TY beach clean! Hero.

"As ever you never know what you might find and who you might help on a beach clean!"
