An Italian restaurant and jewellers are the latest stores to close in East Kilbride town centre.
Il Capriccio has pulled down the shutters, leaving another gap in Centre West after Pizza Hut – a long-standing fixture in the town centre – decided against renewing its lease.
The news comes as it was also confirmed that Goldsmiths jewellers had closed down after almost 16 years in the town.
The store was one of the first to open in Centre West when it launched in 2003, but the luxury retailer ceased trading at the end of last month.
However, a spokesman for EK, East Kilbride, was positive about finding a replacement for Il Capriccio, adding that new restaurant Hanoi Quan would be opening in Centre West in the near future.
He told the East Killbride News : “Like many other retail and leisure outlets, Il Capriccio has suffered as a result of difficult market conditions.
“Unfortunately the restaurant closed its doors a few weeks ago and we are continuing our efforts to find a new operator for the unit.
“We are disappointed with Goldsmiths’ decision to leave the centre. This is a very difficult time for the retail industry.”
There was some good news however, with it being announced that the space left by Thorntons has been filled by new retailer Candylicious.
A spokesman for EK, East Kilbride also confirmed KFC is set to re-open in East Kilbride Shopping Centre – two years after leaving.
The fast-food chain are in the process of fitting out a new outlet in Princes Mall, near East Kilbride bus station.
A KFC previously existed in the food court in Centre West.
