Jewel tones rule the red carpet at the 2019 Golden Globes

Where last year's Golden Globes were a dark affair _ stars wore black in a show of solidarity for Hollywood's sexual assault victims in the post-Weinstein world _ this year's red carpet was a barrage of jewel tones.

MJ Rodriguez, the breakout star of "Pose," showed off her slim frame in a teal Grecian floor-length gown, while "Americans" alum Holly Taylor looked ready for prom in a ruby mermaid dress.

Camilla Belle stuck to the theme with a royal blue off-the-shoulder dress, but the actress was an early winner with stunning green eye makeup that matched her gown's detailing.

"The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel's" Rachel Brosnahan, a star of the TV season, shone in daisy yellow, while Lady Gaga paid homage to Judy Garland in a lavender gown _ though Gaga went above and beyond with larger than life sleeves and an enormous train.

Even the men were in the mood: Idris Elba looked his usual dapper self in an emerald three-piece suit, while Ken Jeong matched a purple bowtie to his wife's gown.

Ryan Murphy's golden boy Cody Fern went wild in wide-legged, high-waisted black pants and a partially see-through black button-down, while "Assassination of Gianni Versace" co-star Darren Criss looked like he pulled wallpaper out of the bathroom in a floral suit jacket that worked where it probably shouldn't have.

On the muter side of the carpet were Dominique Jackson ("Pose"), Jamie Lee Curtis and show host Sandra Oh in stunning white.

Oh's "Killing Eve" co-star Jodie Comer went in the opposite direction with an elaborate black number, while showrunner Phoebe Waller-Bridge divided the difference in a dazzling ruby number.

Among the rare misses on the evening were Judy Greer, who drowned in an oversized pantsuit, and the young Elsie Fisher ("Eighth Grade") in what appeared to be a velveteen red army uniform, while Dakota Fanning's ice blue gown washed out her pale complexion even more than usual.

Lucy Boynton risked matching the Golden Globes trophy had she been nominated for "Bohemian Rhapsody," but she was shut out of the individual contests.
