Jetstar will launch its first international service from the southern city of Hat Yai in Songkhla province with an inaugural flight to Singapore this evening, Nov 3.

The Singapore-based budget airline will operate four return flights a week between the two destinations  - on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

“The schedule of our flights will better suit families and young working professionals as they will be able to maximise their weekend in Singapore with Friday evening departures and returning on Sunday or Monday,"  said chief executive Bara Pasupathi.

Hat Yai airport director Kittiya Kontong said the service will add manke anothr 70,000 seats a year available  for southern Thai and international visitors to fly between Singapore and Hat Yai.

The airport currently handles more than 3.5 million passengers a year and is expected to expand to a capacity of 4.5 million by 2018.

The Jetstar Group now operates up to 74 weekly flights to four destinations in Thailand -  Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai and Hat Yai.
