Jets WR Robby Anderson signs restricted free agent tender

Robby Anderson will officially be back with the Jets next season.

Anderson signed his restricted free agent tender with the Jets on Thursday. His salary for the 2019-2020 season will $3,095,000 and he can become an unrestricted free agent next offseason.

The 26-year-old wideout had until April 19 to talk with other teams about a long-term deal, but nothing came of it. If another team did offer him a contract, the Jets could’ve matched it since Anderson was a restricted free agent.

In 2018, Anderson had a down year compared to his breakout 2017 campaign with 50 receptions for 752 yards and six touchdowns. It took Anderson a while to get going, but he finished out the season strong and developed a solid rapport with Sam Darnold.

With a new offensive system coming in, Anderson is looking to get more targets next season. Adam Gase has repeatedly stated that he doesn’t want to keep Anderson in a box. Gase wants to see Anderson running more designed routes, rather than running in a straight line down the field.

This year is Anderson’s most important of his career. He’s going to be looking for a new deal next year, so his performance in 2019 will dictate how much money he can make in his next contract.
