Jets WR Robby Anderson arrested, accused of threatening officer's family

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. _ Robby Anderson, 24, a wide receiver for the New York Jets who lives in Sunrise, was arrested in that city early Friday morning after police say he was speeding, driving recklessly and made threats against a police officer.

Anderson is accused of threatening to rape the wife of the police officer who took him into custody as well as making threats against the officer's family, according to an arrest report.

"He also began to brag about how much money he has, and how all I was doing was trying to 'ruin his fun,' " Officer Jonathan Hennessy wrote in his report.

Anderson came to the attention of police Friday when a white SUV approached a traffic stop near 801 N. Flamingo Rd. The SUV sped past and police followed.

The SUV traveled at 105 mph in a 45-mph zone for about three-quarters of a mile, the arrest report said. It ran two red lights, went beneath Interstate 595 and turned east onto State Road 84.

The SUV was "all over the roadway and failed to maintain a single lane on numerous occasions," the report states. The SUV stopped in the 11400 block of State Road 84 in Davie. After Anderson got out of the truck, it continued to roll forward because it had not been put in park, according to police.

Asked by Hennessy why he was driving recklessly, Anderson asked for his lawyer. As the officer was placing Anderson into the back of a patrol car, he tensed up and refused to get in at first, police said.

"We are aware of the situation," a Jets spokesman said. "This is a pending legal matter and we will have no further comment."

Anderson, who grew up in Broward and played high school football for South Plantation High School, led the Jets with 63 receptions for 941 yards and seven touchdowns this season.

He signed with the team in 2016 after going undrafted out of Temple. He has accumulated 1,528 receiving yards and nine touchdowns in two seasons with the Jets.

Anderson was arrested at 2:15 a.m. on suspicion of making threats against a public servant and/or a family member; resisting/obstructing an officer without violence; fleeing or eluding law enforcement while lights and siren are active; reckless driving; failing to drive in a single lane; two counts of running a red light; speeding and tuning when unsafe or not using a signal.

Several peculiar tweets appeared on Anderson's twitter account in the hour prior to his arrest.

Anderson also has an open felony case in Miami-Dade County, according to a courts website. He has pleaded not guilty and asked for a jury trial as he fights a charge of resisting an officer with violence after a May, 2017 incident at 400 Biscayne Blvd. in Miami, an arrest report shows.

Friday afternoon, Anderson was released from a Broward County jail. His bonds were listed as $7,200 on the jail website.

His lawyer was not immediately identified.
