Jets win over Rams places Jags in line for No. 1 overall pick with 2 games remaining

The unthinkable has occurred Week 15 as the New York Jets were able to get their first win of the season and avoid going winless. As a result, the Jacksonville Jaguars are now in line to have the No. 1 overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft if they don’t register wins in Weeks 15-16.

With the Jags and Jets having records of 1-13, both teams are technically tied with a .071 win percentage, putting them in a tiebreaker scenario where it comes down to strength of schedule. Entering this week, the Jets’ strength of schedule (.592) was higher than that of the Jags (.536), giving Jacksonville the inside track to the No. 1 overall pick if they don’t register another win this season.

Acquiring the No. 1 overall pick would be a huge deal for the Jags as they would have dibs on selecting Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who is regarded as the best prospect in recent draft history by many. With that being the case, fans of the Jags will be watching their remaining games against the Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts eagerly, as losses against both could lead to a promising long-term future.
