Jets waive Mike Maccagnan pick Jordan Leggett after 2 seasons

Adam Gase continued to move on from Mike Maccagnan’s draft picks Monday, as the Jets waived tight end Jordan Leggett after two seasons with the team.

Leggett was was a fifth-round draft pick out of Clemson back in 2017. He was expected to be the starting tight end that year, but he went down with a knee injury that sidelined him for his entire rookie season. Leggett made his return this past season, but didn’t record his first NFL catch until Week 4. For the season, Leggett had 14 receptions for 114 yards and one touchdown.

The 24-year-old was part of the 2017 draft class in which Maccagnan, fired last week, selected nine players. With Leggett cut, there are only five players left on the roster from that draft class. Jamal Adams, Marcus Maye, Eli McGuire, Jeremy Clark and Derrick Jones are still with the team, while ArDarius Stewart, Chad Hansen, Dylan Donahue and Leggett have all been released.

This is the second Maccagnan draft pick that Gase has ditched since the head coach was named interim general manager. Clearly, Gase is not a fan of many of Maccagnan’s picks and he isn’t afraid of shipping them off. Leggett was simply the latest.

Don’t be surprised if there’s more along the way.
