Jets waive Frankie Luvu to make room for Chris Herndon

After serving a four-game suspension and missing a week of practice with a hamstring injury, Chris Herndon has officially been activated.

The second-year tight end took the roster spot belonging to LB Frankie Luvu, who was waived on Monday.

It’s not yet clear if Herndon will play in the Jets’ Week 7 matchup against the Patriots, but it doesn’t hurt that the game is on Monday night. With an extra day to recover, the Jets are just hoping to get their starting tight end healthy and on the practice field.

Herndon made an instant impact as a rookie in 2018, catching 39 passes for 502 yards and four touchdowns. The fourth-round pick out of Miami was second on the team in receptions, proving himself to be a reliable target for draft classmate Sam Darnold.

Luvu, meanwhile, appeared in 18 games for the Jets over the last two seasons. A backup linebacker, he picked up 26 tackles and three sacks.
