Jets waiting until April 15 to begin their offseason workout programs

With league meetings in the past and free agency nearing an end, the next phase of the NFL offseason begins this month with workout programs. While attendance at these events are strictly voluntary, it’ll be the first opportunity for coaches to see what they have on their roster.

For teams who hired a new head coach, these programs can begin as soon as this week. The Jets are among the eight teams eligible to start working out this week after they hired Adam Gase, but chose to wait until April 15, o they don’t want to take a league-mandated week off according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini.

Gase ran three offseason programs during his time in Miami, so he understands the need to not take a week off. For younger players, keeping a consistent flow will be important in their development and preparation for the upcoming season.

The odds of veterans showing up for voluntary workouts are slim, but players like Sam Darnold, Jamal Adams and Chris Herndon should be in attendance to continue their development while getting used to working with Gase.
