The New York Jets will have their best shot of the season to win a football game when they visit the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
The Dolphins took both games against the Jets last season with Adam Gase as their head coach. Now Gase finds himself on Gang Green’s sidelines hoping to get a win against his former squad.
The Jets will be without three of their starters this week in Trumaine Johnson (ankles), Ryan Kalil (elbow/knee) and C.J. Mosley (groin). But what’s more concerning is that all of their inside linebackers that were on the roster to start the season are now out with injuries. James Burgess will likely get another start alongside Brandon Copeland, who will move over from outside linebacker.
If the Jets want to win this game, they have to get the offense going again. Sam Darnold has regressed in his last two games, throwing seven interceptions, while Le’Veon Bell hasn’t seen as many touches as he’d like. Going against Miami’s defense, which is one of the worst in the league, is the perfect opportunity for both players to gain some momentum.
The Jets defense also has to get off the field on third down and limit the big chunk plays. They’ve had too many opportunities to stop their opponents on third down, but haven’t been successful in doing so.
As for the Dolphins, they are in the business of tanking with an 0-7 record and have traded away all their talented players. But the Dolphins have been competitive recently, so they should have a little extra juice for this divisional matchup.
