The time has finally come, as the New York Jets will begin their season against the Buffalo Bills.
The two AFC East rivals split the season series last year with both teams winning on the road. However, the makeup of both teams has drastically changed since the last matchup. The one constant: Sam Darnold vs. Josh Allen.
While the quarterback matchup is an intriguing one, it’ll be overshadowed by the debut of Jets running back Le’Veon Bell. He has yet to play in an NFL game since 2017 when he was with the Steelers and he’s extra motivated for this one.
The Jets will also see the debuts of C.J. Mosley, Ryan Kalil, Jamison Crowder, Kelechi Osemele, Brian Poole, Quinnen Williams and Ty Montgomery. Adam Gase will be making his head coaching debut with the Jets as well.
New York is going to need a balanced offensive attack if it wants to get its first win of the season. Bell has to be productive out of the backfield and in the passing game, while Darnold needs to play turnover-free football and be able to lead the offense down the field.
Defensively, the Jets have to contain Allen in the pocket and make sure he doesn’t scramble on them. The one time Allen faced the Jets, he ran for 101 yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, the cornerbacks can’t allow either John Brown or Zay Jones to get behind them. They have elite speed and have the ability to break the Jets’ haunted secondary.
