Jets agree to trade for Raiders G Kelechi Osemele

The Jets did not wait until the beginning of the new league year to upgrade their offensive line, as general manager Mike Maccagnan made use of the trade market to land a new left guard on Sunday.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, New York will acquire Kelechi Osemele from the Oakland Raiders. The trade cannot be processed until Wednesday.

In exchange for Osemele, the Jets will part ways with a fifth-round pick in the 2019 NFL draft, per the Oakland Tribune’s Jerry McDonald. New York will also get Oakland’s sixth-round pick via the Chicago Bears.

Osemele, 29, endured an injury-riddled 2018 season but has earned a reputation as one of the better guards in the league when healthy. He is due to make $10.2 million and $11.7 million over the final two years of his five-year, $60 million contract that he signed with the Raiders in 2016.

A second-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens in 2012, Osemele is a two-time Pro Bowler and was a first-team All-Pro selection in 2016. The 6-foot-5, 330-pound offensive lineman will slot in at left guard for New York in place of James Carpenter, whose contract expired at the conclusion of the 2018 season.
