Ex-Jets OLB Jachai Polite clears waivers, signs with Seahawks practice squad

Update Sept. 1, 2019 1:36 p.m.

Jachai Polite has signed with the Seahawks practice squad, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, after being cut by the Jets and going unclaimed on waivers.

Jachai Polite’s NFL career has begun with a rather rude welcoming to the business side of things.

After being cut by the Jets on Saturday — just four months after he was drafted in the third round — Polite went unclaimed on waivers Sunday, according to The MMQB’s Albert Breer. The 21-year-old and 68th overall pick is now a free agent.

Polite came to the Jets after character concerns plagued his time at Florida and during the pre-draft process. Once considered a first-round talent, the pass rusher fell to Mike Maccagnan while he was still running things in New York.

Now, however, Joe Douglas is in charge. He had no attachment to Polite, who also failed to impress Jets coaches Adam Gase and Gregg Williams this summer. After recording just four tackles against third- and fourth-stringers in preseason action, the Jets’ new regime didn’t have any second thoughts about cutting the Maccagnan holdover.

Per The Athletic’s Connor Hughes, the Jets are not interested in signing Polite to their practice squad, which means he will need to find a new team as he tries to reboot his NFL career before it could even begin.
