FLORHAM PARK, N.J. _ Jets rookie tight end Chris Herndon said Tuesday his arrest on charges of DWI and careless driving last weekend in Rockaway Township, N.J., isn't reflective of him as a person.
"Just not who I am," Herndon said after OTA practice. "I can't really speak on some of that."
Herndon, a 2018 fourth-round pick from Miami crashed his Nissan Armada into a Toyota Land Cruiser that was transporting another vehicle on Interstate 80 West in Rockaway Township, according to New Jersey State Police. Herndon was not injured in the crash and has practiced the last two days.
Herndon's arrest is the eighth incident involving a Jets' player with law enforcement in the last 13 months. Todd Bowles said he doesn't believe the Jets have a discipline problem or should change how they evaluate players coming out of college.
"We know this growing up, this is not when you just get into the league," Bowles said. "We learn this in class in high school or junior high school. It's not like this is (just) coming about. DUI is a problem nationwide. This is not a football problem, we have had a guy who had a DUI and we've had some people in the past (with issues), no different than a lot of people. That doesn't make it OK."
