Jets sign veteran CB Marcus Cooper, waive TE Nick Truesdell

Amid a rash of injuries at cornerback, the Jets signed veteran Marcus Cooper, who was just released by the Detroit Lions, on Tuesday.

Cooper, 29, has played 74 games and had four interceptions for the Cardinals in 2016. The seventh-year has zero picks since and has not started a game since September 2017.

A seventh-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers out of Rutgers in 2013, Cooper has been a journeyman throughout his NFL career. He failed to make San Francisco’s 53-man roster as a rookie and proceeded to play three seasons with the Chiefs. Along the way, he has made stops with the Cardinals, Bears and Lions.

For his career, Cooper has started 28 games and recorded seven interceptions, 36 pass defenses and 154 tackles.

The Jets signed Cooper at a time were the cornerback room is decimated. Right now, Darryl Roberts and Arthur Maulet are the team’s starting outside cornerbacks. Trumaine Johnson is week-to-week with a hamstring injury and Kyron Brown is out with a hamstring injury as well.

To free up a spot for Cooper, the Jets waived tight end Nick Truesdell for the second time in 10 days. Truesdell was originally re-signed by the Jets on Saturday after the team waived Derrick Jones.
