Jets sign ex-Bears TE Daniel Brown

The Jets have signed former Ravens and Bears tight end Daniel Brown, according to his agent.

The Jets needed depth at the tight end position and Brown gives them exactly that. He joins a tight end room that includes both Chris Herndon and Jordan Leggett. New York declined its option on Eric Tomlinson, while Neal Sterling is not expected back after having issues with concussions last season.

Brown, an undrafted free agent out of James Madison in 2015, signed with the Ravens and went back and forth between the active roster and practice squad. Brown signed with the Bears in 2016, logging 13 receptions for 129 yards while starting two out of 14 games.

Brown appeared in 14 games with the Bears last season, primarily playing special teams while being used as a blocking tight end.

This addition gives the Jets depth at the tight end position and another special teamer at the exposable of Brant Boyer. With Tomlinson gone, the Jets needed a blocker. Perhaps Brown can win that job this summer.
