Jets sign defensive end Vinny Curry, running back Tevin Coleman

NEW YORK — The Jets have added a pair free agents.

Former Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Vinny Curry signed with the Jets, the team and Curry announced Wednesday. Curry’s deal is for one year, with a $1.3 million base salary and $1.075 million is fully guaranteed, according to NFL Network.

In 2020, Curry had 16 tackles, three sacks and three tackles for loss. He was with the Eagles from 2012-2017 and had a second stint from 2019-2020. He spent a year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2018. He has 32 career sacks. Curry’s best year came in 2014 when he had nine sacks.

Curry, who turns 33 years old in June, joins an already improving position group — the Jets added defensive end Carl Lawson and defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins.

Curry also had a connection with Jets general manager Joe Douglas, who was the Eagles’ vice president of player personnel from 2016-2019.

The Jets also signed former San Francisco 49ers running back Tevin Coleman to a one-year deal worth up to $2 million, per multiple reports.

Coleman is the first former 49ers player to join Jets head coach Robert Saleh in New York.

Coleman, who turns 28 years old in less than a month, didn’t contribute much last year as he dealt with knee injuries. He’s familiar with Jets offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur’s scheme — they’ve worked together since 2016 in Atlanta and San Francisco.

Coleman’s single-season career high in rushing was 2018 with the Atlanta Falcons, when he ran for 800 yards with four rushing touchdowns. In 2019, the season the 49ers went to the Super Bowl, he rushed for 544 yards.

Coleman has logged 2,937 yards rushing with 24 touchdowns along with 117 receptions for 1224 yards receiving with 12 touchdowns over his career.
