Jets sign CB Mark Myers, waive S John Battle

Jets general manager Joe Douglas continued his quest for cornerback depth on Thursday, signing Mark Myers. In a corresponding move, New York waived undrafted free agent safety John Battle.

Myers originally signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of Southeastern University in 2018. However, he did not make the team out of training camp and spent most of the season on Tampa Bay’s practice squad. As of last week, Myers was playing for the Calgary Stampeders in the NFL.

At Southeastern, Myers was a four-year starter. He recorded 91 tackles, 25 pass defenses and nine interceptions in 33 games.

Battle originally signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent out of LSU in May. At LSU, Battle registered 139 tackles, 2.5 TFLs and 14 pass defenses in three seasons playing in the SEC.

Former Jets tight end Neal Sterling also found a new home on Thursday, signing with the Kansas City Chiefs. Sterling signed with Kansas City’s practice squad two years ago when the Jets released him and the Chiefs also expressed interest in him when the Jacksonville Jaguars released him at the end of training camp in 2017.
