Jets S Jamal Adams blasts NFL after fine for hit on Baker Mayfield

Jamal Adams is not afraid to voice his displeasures. On Wednesday he took to Twitter to voice his frustrations with the NFL after he was fined for this hit on Browns QB Baker Mayfield in Week 2.

Adams then kept delivering hits. Speaking with reporters on Thursday, he was still clearly upset about being fined.

“It’s crazy. It bothered me a lot. It’s kind of like, what do you want me to do?” Adams said. “It was legal. Next time, I might just tag him on the hip and say, ‘He’s it,’ and play tag with him. I don’t know what else you want me to do in that situation.”

The Jets’ third-year safety is considerably confused. His hit on Baker Mayfield in the first quarter of the Jets’ 23-3 loss to the Browns on Monday Night Football was flagged for roughing the passer. Then, according to Adams, the officiating crew apologized to him and the Jets, saying that the roughing the passer penalty was a judgment mistake on their part.

“What’s funny is that after the game those guys came to the coaching staff and apologized for that call,” Adams said. “At the same time, those guys have a tough situation as far as calling certain calls. It’s very tough for me to get mad at them because they have a tough job.”

However, the NFL was singing a different tune. According to Brian Costello of the New York Post, the league reviewed Adams’ hit on Mayfield and decided it was the correct call. So, Adams will be fined for unnecessary roughness, which the safety plans to appeal.
