Jets rookie Quinnen Williams gets hit with his 1st fine

Quinnen Williams’ pockets are a little bit lighter heading into Week 4 of the preseason.

The NFL fined Williams for a hit on Falcons backup QB Matt Schaub during the Jets’ 22-10 win over Atlanta in Week 2 of the preseason, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Williams was not penalized during the game for the hit in question, so he will likely appeal. As mentioned by Pelissero, the fine is for $21,056, which is the typical amount for a roughing the passer infraction.

The Jets rookie defensive lineman is only the second player to be fined during the course of the preseason. Vikings WR Laquon Treadwell was fined $28,075 by the NFL for unnecessary roughness on an illegal block in Minnesota’s preseason opener.

It still remains to be seen whether or not Williams will be able to get his fine reduced, but the Jets rookie has been aggressive often, even if he hasn’t recorded a tackle in the last two preseason games.
