FLORHAM PARK, N.J. _ Darrelle Revis has already begun contemplating his future _ and a position change.
"There will probably be conversations in the future about, maybe, moving my position to safety," the Jets cornerback said Thursday morning in an interview on WFAN radio. "But as of right now, I still feel I can play at a high level, and play the cornerback position at a high level."
Some of the game's best have made the move, going from corner to safety, including Charles Woodson and Rod Woodson.
But while a position shift may be in his not-so-distant future, the Jets aren't considering making any moves just yet.
"I see him playing corner right now," Jets coach Todd Bowles said. "I don't see a future. Right now I just see the present."
Revis participated in team drills for only the second time in training camp and had a good day.
"He ran better today," Bowles said of Revis, who had an impressive pass breakup of a Geno Smith throw to Kenbrell Thompkins. "He's got to get in football shape because he missed a couple days. He was OK overall."
But Revis acknowledged on-air that his right wrist injury last season, which required surgery in March, hindered his trademark bump-and-run coverage _ thereby affecting his overall game.
"It was pretty bad," he said. "But I fought through it. As long as I can run and continue to do my job and not be a distraction or hindrance to the defense, [I'll play]. Sometimes I had to overcompensate with the left arm. When I'd try to jam, I would use the left hand as a guidance and then try to bring my right hand into it. In the past, that was one of my biggest strengths of my game _ the ability to play bump and run."
