The Jets officially cut Isaiah Crowell Thursday in an expected move after agreeing to a deal with Le'Veon Bell this week. The Daily News reported last month that the Jets would part ways with Crowell before $2 million of his $4 million salary became guaranteed on March 15.
And that's exactly what they did.
Crowell's lone season with Gang Green will be known more for his crude action that landed him an endorsement deal than much of anything else. Crowell's touchdown celebration in Cleveland that simulated him wiping his derriere with the football and throwing him into the stands got him an endorsement deal with toilet paper substitute "Dude Wipes."
Now, the Jets have wiped him off the roster.
Crowell, who signed a three-year, $12 million deal, was largely ineffective for the Jets despite respectful stats (685 yards, six touchdowns and 4.8 yards per carry). Although Crowell ran for a franchise-record 219 yards in a Week 5 win against the Broncos, he was invisible for way too many games.
He topped 98 yards three times, but rushed for fewer than 50 yards in nine games. He had a sub-3.0 yards per carry in six of his 13 games. He was also slowed by ankle, foot and toe issues.
Bell's arrival obviously spelled the end of the Jets' failed experiment with the 26-year-old Crowell.
The Jets will clear $3 million of salary cap space and carry a $2 million dead money charge.
