For the second consecutive offseason, Taylor Bertolet has failed to stick with the Jets.
After claiming Kaare Vedvik on waivers from the Vikings, New York released Bertolet as a corresponding move following an up-and-down preseason.
Bertolet re-signed with the Jets following Chandler Catanzaro’s retirement. He appeared in three preseason games, going 5-8 on field goal attempts and 2-4 on extra points. It seemed like Bertolet secured his spot with a perfect performance against the Saints in Week 3 of the preseason. However, Bertolet’s 2-5 performance against the Eagles in New York’s preseason finale wound up being his undoing.
With Bertolet gone, Vedvik assumes kicker duties without any competition. Vedvik went 0-3 in the preseason with the Vikings, but showcased his potential with the Ravens in the preseason the past two years. The hope is that Vedvik can revert back to that form and give the Jets stability in the kicking game.
