Jets RB Le’Veon Bell will not play in preseason

The first time Jets fans will see Le’Veon Bell live in game action will be in Week 1 of the regular season.

Adam Gase told reporters after the Jets’ annual Green & White scrimmage and said Bell will not play in the preseason. After watching linebacker Avery Williamson go down with a torn ACL against the Falcons, Gase doesn’t want to take any chances with Bell.

Bell has not appeared in an NFL game since 2017. He has been itching to play in a game, but there is no reason to risk getting him hurt in a meaningless football game. The Jets invested $52.5 million over four years for their new running back during the offseason. They prefer that investment does not go to waste.

The 27-year-old running back has had to get back up to speed after sitting out in 2018 due to a contract dispute. The Jets eased him in slowly early in training camp, but have been ramping up his workload as of late. He doesn’t look like he’s skipped a beat.
