Jets RB Le’Veon Bell receives $1 million roster bonus

Jets running back Le’Veon Bell has cashed in on an another check.

Bell received a $1 million roster bonus Wednesday, which is a guaranteed portion of his four-year, $52.5 million deal that he signed back in March. Bell is getting a roster bonus for every game he is on the 46-man roster. That bonus is worth $31,250. Assuming Bell plays in every game this season, he will have made $14.5 million in total earnings.

The 27-year-old is showing no signs of rust from his holdout so far this season. In three games, Bell has 284 total scrimmage yards to go along with one touchdown and a fumble.

The numbers appear to be low for Bell, but he’s doing what he can behind the Jets’ struggling offensive line. The unit is nowhere near what Bell had to run behind in Pittsburgh. The Jets don’t create any holes for Bell to run through, so he has to dodge tacklers in order to get some running room.

Bell’s deal raised some eyebrows given that running backs don’t typically get paid a lot of money anymore. However, in year one of Bell’s deal, the Jets are getting their money’s worth.
