Jets quarterback Zach Wilson got hurt after two blatant roughing penalties went uncalled

The NFL has made a clear effort over the past decade to protect quarterbacks. Hits below the quarterback’s knees, contact to the face, hits with too much body weight — they’re all penalties in today’s NFL.

And while there’s no way to truly eliminate the injury risk to quarterbacks, you’d expect NFL officials to be able to call egregious illegal hits when they happen. After all, we often see them throw the penalty flag for minimal contact on quarterbacks.

So, yeah, New York Jets fans have every reason to be upset.

Quarterback Zach Wilson left Sunday’s game against the Patriots with a knee injury, and replays would show that the rookie took two straight hits that clearly warranted Patriots penalties. It wasn’t particularly close either.
